The UPDF General Court Martial sitting at the General Division headquarters, Marine Brigade in Buliisa district, on Friday sentenced Private Rubagumya Cephas to ninety years imprisonment for shooting and killing his commander Lance Corporal Businge Bernard while at Mulima detach in Buliisa District.

The prosecution led by Maj Gerald Bamwitiribwe told the DCM chaired by Col Edison Muhanguzi that on May 27, 2020, Pte Rubagumya Cephas left the Mulima detach and went to Hoima town to withdraw his salary and on coming back at around 8:40 pm, he started quarreling  with his commander RA/205293 lance Corporal Businge Benard.

After the heated quarrel, he got his gun from the house and ordered Lance Corporal Businge Bernard to sit down. The latter begged for mercy but all in vain and he was shot and killed in cold blood with malice aforethought, according to prosecution.

Prosecution witnesses RA/240969 Pte Ochero Joseph and RA/239190 Pte Chebet Flouk who were also deployed at the same Mulima detach told the DCM that Pte Rubagumya Cephas shot at their commander RA/205293 lance Corporal Businge Benard about ten times shortly after a heated argument .

While sentencing the convict, the Court Martial chairman Col Musinguzi said that he has handed him this sentence so that it can serve as a warning to all officers and men of UPDF who would engage in this.

“This sentence should serve as a warning to all gallant officers and men of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces especially the Marine Brigade unit,” he remarked.

The convict was reminded of his constitutional right to appeal with in fourteen days in case he is not satisfied with both conviction and sentence.
