National Resistance Movement party election disputes tribunal put in place to settle the recent chaotic primary elections on Monday camped in Kigezi region to handle 17 petitions from 17 constituencies in Kabale, Kanungu, Rubanda, Kisoro, Rukiga and Rukungiri.
In Ndorwa West, the tribunal cleared the State Minister of Finance in charge of planning, David Bahati to carry the ruling party’s flag in 2021 general elections.
“A careful study of this constituency reveals that it has 300 villages. Hon Bahati won on 297 villages,” said Sebuufu Usaama, a member of the committee.
“The petitioner only won in 3 villages… it is the finding of this tribunal that this result reflected the will of the people of Ndorwa West.”
Speaking after the tribunal exercise, Bahati said the will of the people of Ndorwa West triumphed.
“On 4th of September 2020, the resounding voice from the people of Ndorwa County West was clear on whom they wanted to carry the NRM Party flag in the 2021 Parliamentary Elections,” said Bahati.
Adding: “The long queues that filled the polling centers gave me an overwhelming 90% of the vote. That translated to 45,245 votes while the runner-up got 5,029 votes. That’s a margin of 40,216 votes! And a win in 297 villages out of the 300.”
Bahati defeated two candidates including Mr. Simpson Mpereirwe who got 5,089 votes and Mark .K who got 305 votes.
“Today, the NRM Elections Disputes Tribunal has validated the decision of the people, and I’m happy with this verdict. For ever grateful to God and the people of Ndorwa county west,” he said.
The Minister appealed to the people of his constituency to get together and concentrate on ensuring that NRM registers a resounding victory in the general elections.
“Now that the process of Primaries is behind us, we call upon all NRM loving people to rally behind us to consolidate the votes and give a resounding victory for NRM Party Candidates and H.E President Yoweri Museveni in the 2021 General Elections,” he concluded.
