The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Returning Officer for Nyabushozi County has been arrested.

David Agom Andinda was on Sunday morning picked from his home in Akatongole, Kiruhura District, by detectives working on the president’s instructions.

Eyewitnesses told ChimpReports that Police searched Andinda’s home where some items were recovered.

Andinda was then put under formal arrest before being escorted to Kiruhuura Police Station where he is detained.

This investigative website understands that Andinda faces charges of uttering a false document, forgery and conspiracy to commit a felony among others.

His detention is part of a wider investigation into the violence and electoral malpractices that characterized the recently concluded NRM primaries.

The development comes just days after President Museveni ordered fresh elections in 84 polling areas of Nyabushozi.

Museveni made the orders during the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting held at State House Entebbe on Thursday.

The decision came high on the heels of public outrage over the NRM MP Primary results which favored Col. Fred Mwesigye.

Mwesigye was declared the winner with  54,996 votes yet the total vote count for the district woman MP held on the same day was 41,629 votes.

In a humorous tone, Museveni said he was informed of Nyabushozi women’s resistance to the election outcome.

“You see this area has big ladies. They are always seated. They take their time to stand,” said Museveni, throwing CEC into laughter.

“When they stand, they fight. They are dangerous fighters. We shouldn’t go for general elections without addressing their issues,” said Museveni.

Using social media platform, WhatsApp, Nyabushozi women expressed shock that Mwesigye was declared winner of the NRM MP primaries.

They said they would either vote opposition or stay away from the general elections if Col Mwesigye was declared NRM flag-bearer.

In Nyabushozi, election in contested areas will be held early next week to hit the deadline for the national Electoral Commission (EC).

The EC set Thursday and Friday next week as nomination dates for MP candidates in the 2021 general elections.

Today’s arrest implies NRM will most likely appoint a new returning officer in Nyabushozi to oversee the election exercise.

In a recent letter, Museveni said he was directing “the IGP and DPP, whatever term is applicable to use the results of the audit to criminally prosecute all those, or at least the ringleaders of this massive anti-people but shallow forgery that attempts to usurp the sovereignty of the people.”
