Ugandan international goalkeeper Ismail Watenga has this week joined Premier Soccer League giants Mamelodi Sundowns for trials ahead of a highly anticipated move.
A highly placed Source in South Africa told ChimpReports that the former Vipers Sports Club custodian will be training with the 2019/2020 treble winners and the club will make the final decision after assessing his skills.
The source disclosed to this website that Watenga, was recommended by the team’s first choice goalie and fellow Uganda, Dennis Onyango. However, his move will require the club to drop one foreign player as the foreign quota of five is full.
“Its some kind of trials, so if he passes then they will sign him on a three-year contact. Onyango recommended him to former coach Pitso but it might be hard to sign him because Sundowns foreign quota is full unless ehen they drop one foreigner,” the source said.
Previously, the Brazilians signed former Bidvest Wits gloves man Ricardo Goss on a three-year contract deal.
Watenga was due to arrive at Chloorkop in March this year before the coronavirus pandemic, halted football-related activities putting a stop to the move.
Besides Vipers Sports Club, the 25-year old has previously featured for Kenya Premier League outfit Sofapaka, Ethiopia based Bunna FC among others.
