A panel of five Supreme Court justices led by Chief Justice Alphonse Owinyi-Dollo will deliver judgment in the matter where businessman Kato Kajubi challenges the life imprisonment sentence granted to him by the then High Court judge Mike Chibita.
Other justices on the panel include Prof Lilian Tibatemwa, Percy Tuhaise, Ezikiel Muhanguzi and Ruby Opio Aweri.
This matter came up for hearing and court consolidated the two appeals which Kajubi had filed before the same court but through two different law firms.
He had filed one appeal through Wameli and Company Advocates and the second appeal was through Nakagga and Company Advocates.
Appearing before court, the Assistant Director of Public Prosecution (ADPP) Simon Peter Kalemba informed court that he had already responded to the first appeal and sought court guidance on how to go about the matter.
However, he has been informed that these are going to be adopted on both appeals before coming up with the final decision.
In 2012, Justice Mike Chibita the current Justice of the Supreme Court, while still at Masaka High Court, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment Kato Kajubi after finding him guilty of hiring Umar Kateregga, a witch doctor and his wife Mariam Nabukeera, to slaughter a 12-year-old Joseph Kasirye for ritual purposes.
Kajubi, being unsatisfied with the court decision, petitioned the Court of Appeal which upheld the decision of the lower court and thus rushed to the Supreme Court.
