Independent presidential candidates John Katumba and Willy Mayambala have asked the Electoral Commission to provide food to all security guards of the aspirants.
According to the duo, the Shs20m nomination fees they paid to the Commission is meant for such costs
“I don’t have money to feed these security officers, why can’t the EC use part of the money I paid to feed them. I am even failing to buy fuel for the car, some of us will conduct the campaigns on boda-bodas,” Katumba said.
On his part, Mayambala said he is finding it hard to facilitate the bodyguards.
“Some of us financially we’re not stable, personally I have failed to raise money for my campaign posters. I am only surviving on the funding from well-wishers,” Mayambala, adding that he even doesn’t have a place to accommodate the guards.
Mayambala and Katumba have so far struggled to sustain the expenditure that comes with campaigns. Mayambala who campaigned in Kampala on Wednesday, says he was pushed by the desire to change the mindset of the poor people who think elections are for the rich people who don’t even know the challenges of the common man like him.
On the other hand, Katumba has even failed to travel to Acholi for campaigns, saying he lacks funds
