Following the Uganda Cranes triumph over South Sudan on Thursday evening on home turf at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, the cranes have been receiving plaudits for their progress, with the latest coming from the first lady and minister of Education and sports, Janet Museveni.

The cranes edged past a resilient South Sudan side (1-0) in a hotly contested AFCON 2021 qualifier in Kitende.

The minister was full of praise for the team’s backroom staff and the sports administration in the country.

“I commend the players, coaches, technical staff, FUFA, National Council of Sports and Ministry of Education and Sports for the good result and appreciate the efforts of every team member of the Uganda Cranes in training and competing under the current exceptional circumstance posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the minister said.

She added, “Uganda is, therefore, on the right track not only in Football, but in all other sports to becoming a Global Sports Power-house.”
