Fresh from being crowned as Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA)’s best sports personality for the year 2020, Joshua Cheptegei has been shortlisted for the 2020 Male Athlete of the year.
Cheptegei is among the final five best athletes shortlisted by the World Athletics governing body prior to the awarding ceremony slated for Saturday 5th December 2020.
To win the gong, he will need to beat competition from Karsten Warholm (Norway), Johannes Vetter (Germany), Mondo Duplantis (Sweden) and Ryan Crouser (USA).
The 5000m, 10000m and 5km world record holder will fancy his chances for the award which has been won by Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge for the past two years.
Fellow Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo alongside Donovan Brazier (USA), Timothy Cheruiyot (Kenya), Noah Lyles (USA) and Daniel Stahl (Sweden) have all missed out on the final list despite making the top ten list.
