CAF Champions League | Preliminary Round
• Al Hilal Omdurman 1-0 Vipers SC (Agg 2-0)
Vipers Sports Club has bowed out of the CAF Champions League after a 1-0 second leg defeat to Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman in the first preliminary round on Sunday.
Mohamed Musa Eldai’s second half strike after 63 minutes saw Al Hilal progress to the final preliminary round with a 2-0 aggregate win at Blue Jewel stadium in Khartoum city.
Eldai met a loose ball off Vipers’ attacking forward Jamil Kaliisa before placing it on the far post past goalkeeper Fabien Mutonbora.
The Venoms had put up a worthy effort in the first half and missed gilt-edged golden opportunities from Jamil Kaliisa, Dan Sserunkuma and Ceazer Manzoki who missed inside the area.
Despite bringing on right back Joseph Dhata, Paul Mucureezi and Yiga Najib Sserunkuma, Disan Galiwango and Manzoki, Fred Kajoba’s team failed to break through a solid Al Hilal backline and the hosts became more resilient as the game grew.
Al Hial will now face off with the winner between Noudhibour (Mauritania) and Asante Kotoko in the second preliminary round before qualifying for the group stage.
