The presidential candidate for the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, on Monday urged the people of Bududa to vote for the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for Manjiya County MP seat, Mr John Baptist Nambeshe.
According to Gen Muntu, Mr Nambeshe, who is also the NUP vice president in-charge of eastern Uganda, has always stood for the interests of the people.
“You should vote for people with values and Mr Nambeshe is one of them. He voted No to extension of Mr Museveni rule despite all the intimidation and threats to his life. He could have been compromised by money, but he stood by his word despite being NRM then,” he said.
Mr Nambeshe is one of the NRM rebel MPs who fell out with the party over the 2017 presidential age limit Bill.
ANT has no flag bearer in the Manjiya County race. The other contestants in the race are Mr Moses Mukhobeh Khaukha (NRM), Mr Hussein Matanda Kaato (Independent) and Mr Jackson Matsanga (Independent).
Muntu’s endorsement of Nambeshe comes after National Unity Platform’s Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, asked asked Koboko Municipality residents to vote for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party parliamentary candidate Charles Ayume.
Muntu continued to campaign in Manafwa District where he urged the people to retire Museveni by voting him out of power.
“Museveni and his people are effective propagandists. They want you to surrender something I notice almost everywhere I go. Many people are skeptical. They think that Gen. Museveni cannot be defeated. I want you to change that mentality and believe that whatever this guy tries to do, we shall organise and overwhelm him-its possible,” he said.
“Like us who fought in the bush, I know that what wins a war is not the size and number of guns, it is the state of mind of the fighters. if they believe that they cannot win, it doesn’t matter whether they have the modern machine guns, they will loose the war,” he added.
