Nomination of SIGs Representatives in Parliament Set for Next Week

The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd December 2020 as the dates for nomination of candidates for election of Members of Parliament representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that is workers; youths, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and older persons.

The nomination exercise, according to EC spokesperson Paul Bukenya, will be conducted at the Electoral Commission Head Office in Kampala beginning at 9 am and ending at 5 pm.

Any aspiring candidate  shall be a citizen of Uganda and registered voter, and will be required to fulfill all the requirements for nomination as outlined in the guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission to represent Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

“All persons participating in the nomination exercise shall be required to comply with guidelines for nomination as issued by the Electoral Commission in accordance with Government of Uganda and Ministry of Health measures against the spread of COVID-19,” said Bukenya.

The Ministry of Health guidelines against COVID-19 spread include; mandatory wearing of face masks while in public, social distancing, hand washing among others.
