Uganda Boxing Federation Approves 22Bn Budget in AGM

The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) on Monday 21st December successfully convened it’s 2020 Annual General Assembly at the Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo.

The meeting was chaired by UBF president Moses Muhangi who was flanked by Simon Barigo (Secretary), Zebra ‘Mando’ Ssenyange (General Duties), Rose Kabwama (Head of Women Affairs) and Richard Muhummuza (Treasurer).

Over 46 clubs were represented by the selected delegates, of which 40 are fully affiliated to the Boxing Federation while the six presided over the meeting as provisional clubs.

During his speech, Muhangi decried the limited financial support from the National Council of Sports and opened up on the establishment of the Union of Uganda Sports Federations and Association Leaders (UUSFA) whose aim is to meet the president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni.

“The budget is a projection of activities we intend to have next year and if we get all the money we want then we shall plan for the activities we intend to participate in. Sometimes what you expect is not what you get and that can’t stop us from having our projection,” Muhangi said.

The assembly approved the actual income for the year 2019/2020 which totaled to Seven hundred fifty nine million four hundred two thousand nine hundred shillings (759,402,900) with cash and Bank balances of Eighteen million seven hundred ninteen thousand one hundred sixty nine (18,719169).

The breakdown of the actual income included Administrative Expenses (145,662,989), Program/Activities (252846400), Capacity Building (67542100), Finance Costs (51380654), Loan Principal Payment (188,942,064) and Cooperate Social Responsibility (61,233,500).

The meeting furthermore drew and approved an estimated/ projected budget for the year 2020/2021 which sums up to Twenty Two billions Ninety millions Six hundred Fifty Nine thousand shillings (22,090,659,000.)

The 2021 estimated budget breakdown included Grants from the government of Uganda (15,773,359,010), partners (300,000,000), Club affiliation fees (18800,000), Club Events participation fees ((62,700,000), Merchandise Sales (35,200,000), Donations (100,000,000), Loans (150,000,000), Gate collections (660,000,000) and sponsors (5,000,000,000).

The annual general meeting furthermore agreed to wave off this year’s calendar activities which were affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic.

These events included National Open Boxing Championship, Intermediates Boxing Championship, National Cadets, National Schools competitions, National Junior Boxing Championship and as well the Bingwa wa Mabingwa competitions in Tanzania.

The estimated budget for the year 2021 targets National team’s participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and as well qualify a number of athletes in the international event, Capacity Building in the coaches and administration system, Increase revenue through gate collection among others.
