  • Mawokota 2-1 Kooki

Bugerere Ssaza kick-started the 2020 Masaza Cup tournament on a high after a 2-0 victory against Kyadondo in the opening game of Masengere group on Thursday afternoon at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

Tonny Kiberu fired Bugerere in the lead after 14 minutes when he capitalized on goalkeeper Muyindo Aristoti’s school-boy mistake. Muyindo failed to comfortably deal with Ayman Twaha Toure’s shot before Kiberu tapped in a loose ball from the resultant error.

Second half substitute Wycliff Luseda who replaced Ndugwa Swaibu cemented their lead with two minutes to the climax after overlapping to score past Aristoti who had made two back-to-back acrobatic saves but failed to thwart away the third rebound.

Ayiman Twaha and Ndugwa Swaibu would have stretched Bugerere’s lead but goalie Aristoti was equal to their challenges while Gaganga Geoffrey missed a tap-in from zero distance.

Bugerere’s shot stopper Mayinja Diriisa also rose to the occasion denying Peter Emayu, Eric Wadribo and Andrew Otim as Andy Ssali’s side held on till the final whistle to bag maximum points.

Elsewhere, Fazil Tumwine and Isaac Ofoyrwith strikes guided three-time winners Mawokota to a 2-1 slim win against Kooki. Anthony Ssekidde Masikirano’s penalty was not enough to secure a point for Sadiq Sempigi’s side.

Bugerere now on three points atop will play against second placed Mawokota on Saturday afternoon (3pm) while 2008 champions Kyadondo and Kooki lock horns in the other encounter (12pm) in Jinja.
