McKinstry names final Cranes squad for CHAN tournament

Uganda Cranes Head coach Johnathan McKinstry has named his final squad for the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2020 Finals to be held in Cameroon from 16th January to 7th February 2021.

Uganda is in Group C alongside defending champions Morocco, neighbours Rwanda and new comers Togo.

There are four goalkeepers on the team with eight defenders, six midfielders and seven forwards.

Steven Mukwala, Hassan Ssenyonjo, Ashraf Mandela and Joseph Ssemujju have been dropped from the team that is currently in Cameroon having a pre-Chan tournament. They have been replaced by goalkeeper Charles Lukwago, Bright Anukani, versatile defender Denis Iguma and on-form striker Brian Aheebwa.

McKinstry also confirmed that Vipers SC defender Lwaliwa Halid will captain the team.

The Cranes are currently in Yaounde, Cameroon and will play Niger on Thursday 7th January 2021 in the final game of the Pre-CHAN Mini Tournament.

The team will travel to Douala on Friday 8th January 2021, where they will hold another training camp for one week ahead of the group stage matches.

Defenders: Hassan Muhamud (Police FC), Kayondo Abdu Aziizi (Vipers SC), Mujuzi Musitafa (Kyetume FC), Ssenjobe Eric (Police FC), Iguma Dethnis (KCCA FC), Willa Paul (Vipers SC), Lwaliwa Halid (Vipers SC), Mbowa Paul Patrick (URA FC)

Midfielders: Mawejje Tonny (Police FC), Kagimu Shafik Kuchi (URA FC), Anukani Bright (KCCA FC), Kyeyune Saidi (URA FC), Byaruhanga Bobosi (Vipers SC), Watambala Abdu Karim (Vipers SC)
