Three-time Masaza Cup winners Mawokota recorded their second win of the 2020 edition after defeating Bugerere 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru in Jinja

Isaac Ofoyrwith and second half substitute Livingstone Jurua were on target as Richard Malinga’s charges (Mawokota) consolidated the top spot in the Masengere group with maximum points after day two.

Ofoyrwith gave Mawokota the lead after 18 minutes when his shot deflected off Fredrick Ngalo’s body to go past goalkeeper Arafat Otim off who was well beaten for the opener.

In the 89th minute, Jurua who had earlier replaced injured striker Fazil Tumwine doubled Mawokota’s lead off a powerful header past goalie Otim thanks to an Elvis Ssekajugo assist.

“We came into the game targeting maximum points and it’s now the same objective in the final game. We need to top the group and there will be no comprise,” Mawokota’s tactician Richard Malinga stated.

Mawokota, six points on top of the group will just play for a point against Kyadondo in their final game on Monday.

“I congratulate our opponents for winning the game. We failed to convert our chances created and the blame is on us. We need to refocus and energize towards the final game which will be a do or die for us. We need maximum points and with a good goal margin,” Bugerere head coach Andrew Ssali said.

Bugerere remained on three points and will need a win against a wounded Kooki.
