Charles Bbaale netted a brace as Gomba Lions battled back to edge Bugerere 1-2 on the quarter-final stage of the 2020 Masaza Cup tournament at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Bbaale’s second half goals ensured a hard-fought victory for the record winners Gomba as Tony Kiberu’s early strike for Bugerere turned into a mere consolation on Tuesday afternoon.

He scored both goals for Ibrahim Kirya coached side off inswinging corner kicks taking his tally in the 16th edition to seven atop the scorers chart.

Bugerere went into the lead after 40 minutes when Tony Kiberu squeezed through Gomba’s backline and produced a sublime finish to the far post leaving custodian Francis Anguzu with no chance whatsoever.

With 15 minutes into restart, Bbaale levelled matters off a well crafted corner kick that beat goalkeeper Mayinja Dirisa. He later put the four-time winners in the lead off another inswinging corner which was reminiscent of his first.

Victory guided Gomba to Masaza Cup semifinals and will play against 2019 finalists Busiro on Thursday afternoon as Bugerere was sent packing.
