NCHE Insists on Not Opening Higher Education Institutions

1 Mins read

The National Council for Higher Education has advised against reopening Higher Education Institutions.

Several institutions had made many requests regarding re-opening for the continuing and First Year students, with some of them expressing readiness to re-open for all students.

However, according to the Executive Director of NCHE, Professor Mary J.N. Okwakol, the council is still waiting for a directive from government on re-opening for the non- finalist classes.

“As you are all aware, the directives to reopen HEIs for finalists on health-related programmes, and subsequently for all finalists, were given by the President of the Republic of Uganda. Accordingly, we await a decision of Government on the way forward regarding re-opening for no finalist classes,” she said.

“The purpose of this communication, therefore, is to urge all Higher Education Institutions not to re-open until a decision of Government on the matter is communicated,” she stressed.
