The Ibanda District Local Government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation Ibanda branch that will see the water project of Kashozi mini solar piped system in Ishongororo Sub-County being extended.
The MOU signed by the Ibanda District Chairman Melichiadis Kajwengye, the Ibanda branch manager for NWSC Catherine Mwereere, the Chairperson of the Water user committee in Ishongororo Sub-County Byaruhanga Donozio among others indicates that NWSC will be taking control of the project for further extension.
Previously, there was public outcry in the Sub-County of Ishongororo and the neighbourhood due to water scarcity.
The district in response constructed a solar powered pipe system in the financial year 2018/2019.
However, the project worth Shs 634million didn’t solve the problem as much of its functionality depends on solar power.
Obed Mwesigwa the technical supervisor for NWSC at Ibanda Branch, says the assessment that was later on made indicated that the water supplied by the solar system is not enough to supply the area.
He added that there will be a distribution line that will be joined from the project of Kiburara-Bisheshe water to increase supply to almost all the villages in the area.
