El Merrikh Sports Club midfielder Saidi Kyeyune and Mehta Golf Club’s Godfrey Nsubuga have been crowned as the Fortebet Real Stars outstanding sports personalities for the previous month of January.
The duo was awarded during the monthly awards ceremony held on Tuesday morning at Route 265 restaurant in Lugogo.
Nsubuga, a 17 year old Cranes golfer and student at Homeland College, won the 2021 Entebbe Juniors Golf Open with a 1-over par 73 gross score.
“I’m so happy and humbled to have won the accolade and it’s going to motivate me. My dream was to play for the Uganda National Golf team and I achieved it. I have a dream of becoming a professional golfer like Tiger Wood so I will work even more harder to achieve my goals,” Nsubuga noted.
Playing off scratch at the championship, he came 3 strokes better of Entebbe Golf Club’s Elton Thembo and 4 strokes ahead of Mehta Golf club-mate Rogers Eyoyo beating them to the gong.
In the football category El Merrikh new signing Kyeyune won the award for his brilliant two goals during the 2020 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Tournament in the group stages against Togo and Morocco.
Kyeyune who is currently in Sudan finalizing his paperwork and working permit after his transfer, was represented by URA Football Club CEO Henry Mayeku.
He saw off competition from Gomba Ssaza team striker Charles Bbaale who plays for Tiles & Terrazo alongside Buddu Ssaza and Luweero United goalkeeper Farouk Yawe Ssebanja.
Fortebet media manager, John Daniel Nanyumba lauded the organizers and pledged continuous support towards the awards.
