• Police FC 3-1 Kyetume
Uganda Police Football club went top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table after a 3-1 win against Kyetume at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Friday evening.
The game that reunited two Uganda Cranes assistant coaches in Abdallah Mubiru (Police) and Charles Livingstone Mbabazi (Kyetume) was delayed by 20 minutes due to a heavy down pour.
The visitors had the first shot on target off Ezra Bida that was dealt with by Police goalkeeper Derrick Ochan as early as the second minute.
In the 20th minute, winger Odong Johnson who was making his maiden appearance this season, put Police in the lead when his weak shot from outside the box following a Muwada Mawejje cut back caught goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa unaware to hit the back of the net.
15 minutes later, new signing and midfielder Mawejje doubled Police’s advantage when he clinically tapped in a rebound from close range past goalkeeper Mutakubwa who was already beaten.
First goal scorer Odong turned his marksman Richard Matovu in and out to send a powerful shot at Kyetume’s goalie Mutakubwa who parried the ball back into play for ap well positioned Mawejje to tap in from close range.
In the 42nd minute, Baker Buyala reduced the deficit off his rebound from a loose ball that beat custodian Ochan to hit the top left corner of the net as the first stanza ended 2-1.
After the game restart, Odong failed to restore the hosts’ two-goal lead when he fumbled with Ruben Kimera’s teasing cross from the right wing.
In the 72nd minute, January transfer signing Brian Muluuli stretched Police’s lead to three after capitalizing on defender Mustafa Mujjuzi and Joshua Kigozi’s clumsy defending before placing the ball past Mutakubwa as Police walked away with maximum points.
Police now leapfrogs UPDF FC from the UPL summit with 13 points after match-day six while Kyetume remained on nine points in the 7th position.
