Mourners and family members have thanked President Yoweri Museveni for helping in bringing back the body of Justina Kithue Kwesiga, the deceased wife of Prof Charles Kwesiga.
Prof Kwesiga is Senior Presidential advisor on industrialization.
Justine Kithue Kwesiga passed away on February 16th 2021 at her ancestral home in Machakos, Kenya where she had gone to see her ailing mother.
Prof Kwesiga, who is also Executive Director Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) told mourners that he struggled to have the body returned.
But after President Museveni received the news, he called him and told him that he was to take care of the body repatriation.
“I would like to thank President Museveni, for his good heart and for having helped me and my family for repatriate the body of my wife from Kenya,” he said.
Kwesiga was on Friday speaking during the requiem mass that was held at their country home in Kyoruhega Kaina, Ntungamo district.
The couple had been married for 46 years, having met in Kenya after he fled Uganda in the early 1970s.
Kwesiga says he decided to run to exile in the neighboring country after he survived a death row sentence in Luzira.
Later in 1974, he resigned from his job when they tried to post him to work at Entebbe Airport in Uganda.
That was the time his future wife took him and cared for him until he got a scholarship and went to the US.
