Just In: Peter Mathuki Named Secretary General as Kenya Takes EAC Chair

Peter Mathuki from neighboring Kenya has been elected the new Secretary General of the East African Community.

Mathuki was picked for the role in the 21st Ordinary EAC Summit that was held virtually, today Saturday.

He takes over from Amb. Libérat Mfumukeko who has headed the Arusha based EAC Secretariat since April 2016.

The summit was conducted virtually because of Covid19

Dr Mathuki has been serving as the Executive Director of the EAC Business Council.

At the EAC, will be serving a 5 year term which is not renewable.

Meanwhile, during the Summit, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta also took over chairmanship of the regional bloc, from Rwanda’s Paul Kagame.
