Residents of Gakoro village, Gasasa Ward in Bunagana Town Council, Kisoro district woke up in shock yesterday when they found a baby that had been buried alive in a garden.
The baby girl, that’s believed to be about one-month old was found by a resident named Jovia Nyiranone, who had gone to till her garden.
Nyiranone says when she got to the garden, she saw what looked like a leg covered in soil, and on looking closer, she realised it was the skin of a baby that had been buried head first in the soil.
She says she quickly dug the baby out and noticed it was still breathing.
Jovia then alerted the neighbors and the LC1 Chairperson, Mr James Habarurema.
Mr Habarurema condemned the act, which he said was the second of its kind in his village.
He added that he would work with higher authorities to ensure that the culprit is found and prosecuted.
The baby was rushed to Kisoro Central Police Station and later to hospital.
