Six time Uganda National League champions Nemostars have confirmed their participation in the 39th edition of Men’s African Club Championship scheduled for 16th – 28th April 2021.
The Ugandan Volleyball League champions Nemostars are among the twenty six teams on the African continent registered for the tournament that will be hosted in Sousse, Tunisia.
The registered teams for the event are Sfax, Esperance (Tunisia), Wolaita Dicha, Madda Walabu University, Mugher Cement (Ethiopia), FAP (Cameroon), Ahly Tripoli, Ittihad Misurata, Swehly (Libya), VC Price, Espoir, Police (RDC), Amel Tlemcen and Bourj Bouarirj (Algeria).
Others include Nemostars (Uganda), Rukinzo (Burundi), Nigeria Customs, Energy Group, APR (Rwanda), Kenya Ports Authority, GSU, Prisons (Kenya), University of Zimbabwe, JKT, Jeshi Stars and Afunzo (Tanzania).
The Kololo based side who finished 6th overall in the 2019 edition have already embarked on preparations for the continental showpiece through squad strengthening.
Coached by Andrew Okapis, Nemostars have acquired Left attacker Jonathan Tumukunde (Uganda Christian University – Mukono) and Kampala Amarture Volleyball Club’s middle Blocker Saviour Atama.
To finish off with the best ever placement recorded by a Ugandan side in the 2019 edition, Nemostars lost the battle for places to Libyan side El Etihad, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20) .
VVC had the best finish for women when they finished 7th overall in Egypt in 2014 while Ndejje Elites settled for the 8th position in Antananarivo, Madagascar a year before.
