High Court Judge Emmanuel Baguma on Tuesday granted permission to lawyers representing Suleiman Kidandala to serve Kawempe North Member of Parliament elect Muhammed Segirinya with documents in the case where he is accused of forging academic documents.
The lawyers rushed to court seeking permission to have special service for Segirinya whom they have failed to serve with court documents since he was incarcerated.
The court allowed them to proceed with serving Segirinya at Kitalya Prison through the Uganda Prisons Service.
“After filing this case in court we tried to locate the respondent but unfortunately the day at which we were going to effect the service, was when he was arrested for allegedly participation in a demonstration….” the lawyers told court.
These added that upon expiry of the period in which they had to serve, they decided to go to High Court as provided for under the law.
The court granted their request.
Sulaiman Kidandala, one of the former contenders for Kawempe North Parliamentary seat in the recently concluded elections, dragged Segirinya to court with the Electoral Commission accusing the winner of lacking academic requirements.
Kidandala asked court to nullify Segirinya’s election and declare him as the new Member of Parliament for Kawempe North.
