Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has released team of six marathon runners that have departed the country to compete in the NN Mission marathon in Enschede Netherlands on Sunday 18th April 2021.
The group led by 2012 London Olympics gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich includes National record holder Felix Chemonges, Jackson Kiprop, Victor Kiplagat, Geoffrey Kusuro and Bernard Cheptoch.
The Ugandans are among a strong talented field of 35 top class elite runners lined up for the marathon.
The major aim for the Ugandan runners is to hit better qualification marks for Tokyo Olympics Games that will provide them a chance to win of the three slots still available on the national team for the games.
This is the third Ugandan group selected by UAF for international outing in a bid to improve individual world rankings ahead of the ongoing window for the Olympic games with the deadline for the qualification earmarked for the end of this month.
Uganda registered one marathon Olympic Qualifier, Immaculate Chemutai in 2:29.09 during the Xiamen International marathon in Italy last weekend.
The other group of track runners; 4th placed Shida Leni 52:77 (400m) and winner Emmanuel Osuje 1:51.35 (800m) posting promising performances in the All-comers meet on April 11th in Zambia.
