The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) through the Uganda Communications Universal Service Access Fund (UCUSAF) has launched a call for business plan proposals for the UCC/UCUSAF grant to establish a collaboration in the implementation of key activities under a general thematic area of skilling youths in Multimedia production.
This aimed at enhancing local content creation in Uganda in response to the adverse effects that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the entertainment industry and the youth, according to the Commission.
“The general objective of the scheme is to encourage and assist the youth to adopt ICT tools and applications in multimedia production and related business processes, and thereby, improve their productivity and competitiveness in national and international markets,” UCC said in a statement issued Wednesday March 14, 2021.
The strategy aims at establishing youths that are self-employed and self-sustaining using IT tools and skills in multimedia production with various project actions including;
- Identifying target youths/youth groups to benefit from the skilling
- Developing training content, customized in local languages, where possible
- Training youths who meet prerequisite minimum skills requirements
- Monitoring and following-up trainees
The initiative targets youths/youth groups with an interest in Multimedia production and the arts and those engaged in the entertainment business.
“This phase is for a pilot that shall be done using facilities set up by UCC through UCUSAF at public ICT facilities in two locations. One urban (Wakiso) and one rural (Nakaseke),” the statement indicates.
