Police task teams from Kira Division have Tuesday arrested a man who stabbed and killed the manager of Chillies Restaurant in Ntinda last month.

The suspect in custody has been identified as Nelson Enos Ofwono alias Nelson Victor Ochien alias Nelly Octopus and he killed Isaac Omugar at Chillies Restaurant, Ntinda on March 31, 2021.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, Ofwono was arrested from his rented home in Katooke Zone B, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District.

“Police detectives have been searching for the suspect for more than three weeks after they obtained a CCTV footage that showed what transpired at the scene on the fateful day. Upon interrogation, the suspect has admitted to have killed Omugar whom he accused of not paying him his money,” reads the statement released by KMP deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire

It is alleged that Ofwono lent Shs 400.000 to Omugar but hopes to get his money back were erased after he (Ofwono) was laid off from work due to the stress Covid-19 put on the food business.

Reports indicate that the suspect allegedly continued putting the deceased on pressure to pay.

Investigations reveal that on the fateful day, Ofwono pretended to have gone to pick his shoes which he had left behind but instead he stabbed Omugar and robbed Shs 300,000 that was on the table.

“The CCTV footage shows the suspect taking Shs 20,000 from the deceased’s pockets. He also stole two mobile phones belonging to the deceased,” Police said.

By the time he was arrested, he had already sold one phone at Shs 250,000 and during the search, the detectives recovered Sim cards belonging to the deceased at the suspect’s home, in addition to the clothes he was wearing during the murder and aggravated robbery.

“Police have done the better part of the investigation and the case file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for perusal and sanctioning. We commend the officers at Kira Road Police for the efforts they put in to apprehend the suspect,” Owoyesigire said.
