Uganda and Ethiopia have agreed to cooperate in areas of tourism promotion.
The partnership, officials say will include among others airline partnerships, joint video marketing initiatives, inflight magazines; exchange programs in hospitality industry training and skill development in souvenir making.
Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda Alemtsehay Meseret revealed the development during a webinar that was organized by the Embassy under the theme, “Discover why Ethiopia is the origin of so much”.
Meseret pointed out that besides sharing similar philosophical views such as Pan African-ism, Uganda and Ethiopia also happen to be the source of the White and Blue Nile.
She added that this arrangement will also will also explore complementary tourism assets and destinations of the two countries that would be combined in order to create single regional tour packages.
On her part, Ugandan Tourism Board (UTB) CEO Lilly Ajarova, Ajarova said the board had identified intra-Africa tourism as a key market opportunity to Uganda.
As a result, she said it was important to explore the potential tourism partnerships between the two countries in joint marketing and promotion; organizing joint itineraries and familiarization trips between the two countries.
President of Uganda Tourism Association (UTA) Pearl Kakooza emphasized the need to promote inter and intra-Africa tourism.
Kakooza explained that the continent has huge tourism assets and population which can absorb tourism products of the 54 countries.
She urged stakeholders of the two countries to harness the shared and complementary tourism products in areas of culture, agro-tourism especially considering the fact that they are the origin of faith based tourism, arabica and robusta coffee.
