The Police in Luwero District has arrested a one Jamilu Ssekyondwa aged 25 for allegedly circulating false news about President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Ssekyondwa is said to be a supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party and was arrested from Kamira Sub County in Luweero district after a security track down on his WhatsApp and SMS messages.

Ssekyondwa’s arrest comes hours after President Museveni’s directive to security to crackdown on those using social media to spread fake news.

“The social media has been telling people that Museveni is dead when I went to Matuga the other day people were lining up to see me. We need to deal with these people spreading lies on social media. Security needs to apprehend the perpetrators,” said Museveni.
