Swimming: Albert Wasswa Steps Down as Federation General Secretary

Albert Shinnosuke Wasswa has stepped down from his role as Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) Secretary General, just five months after his appointment.

The decision was reached at during the executive committee meeting convened on Monday 5th July 2021 before an official statement from federation president Moses Mwase was released.

“Colleagues, Our SG Shinno has had to retire just a few months down the toad after elections,” read the statement.

Sports suggest that It’s further revealed that Shinnosuke stepped down as USF Secretary General in order to pursue further studies outside Uganda from August 2021 for the coming two years.

“I’d like to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve you in the leadership of the USF. It has been a wonderful run of 6 years, seeing our sport grow and thrive. Although I have had to leave my duty prematurely for further studies, my heart remains with swimming and I will always be happy to serve the swimming family when called upon,” partly read Wasswa’s emotional message .

The USF executive has unanimously appointed Max Kanyerezi to the vacant position of USF Secretary General effective immediately.

Kanyerezi has been elevated from the assistant general secretary role while Ms. Elizabeth Kabahenda takes over the position of USF Competitions Secretary.

This has been done Pursuant to Clause C 17.5 of the USF Constitution in effect from 1 January 2015, which states that “the Executive shall have the power to fill vacant positions on the Executive and shall thereafter report to the next assembly of the Federation.”

The Executive is finalizing a review of the different USF Committees and will announce meeting dates for induction of USF Committee Members, presentation of the Half-Year Report and to consult Members on key outstanding issues.

The Executive will report the aforementioned changes at the next Assembly of the Federation as provided under the USF Constitution.
